Maron

As Maron is hit by enemy attacks, it'll grow in size.

After three hits, Maron will reach charge level 2. After nine hits, Maron will reach charge level 3 and start blinking red. At this point, you have 15s to throw Maron using Maron Strike or the pet will detonate in your hand for zero damage.

Nine hits is a lot, so Maron is mainly used in situations where you can insure that Maron charges quickly, for quick burst damage.

Maron Strike Maron Strike (5 PP)
Maron's signature PA. Say Bomb Voyage, and throw Maron at an enemy, dealing damage in an area.

The damage and AOE of Strike increases based on charge level.

Due to Phantom's Tech Short Charge, it's pretty easy to drop a charged Zanverse cast before throwing a fully charged Maron for a free 200k+ Zanverse tick - just make sure not to switch off of the Maron until the Zanverse damage registers.

Also, beware of accidental death! If a fully charged Maron times out after 15s while you're standing in Zanverse, Maron's damage that sets you to 1 HP will be increased by Zanverse, killing you.

Maron Strike

Maron Shield Maron Shield (5 PP)
Hold your Maron in front of you like a shield.

This can be held to put Maron in harm's way (preventing you from taking damage, and ensuring Maron does), or simply tapped to return Maron to your side. Drains 1 PP every 2s when held.

Also reduces the damage Maron takes by 50%. In some situations, Maron takes too much damage and dies before it can build charge - Maron Shield's damage reduction can prevent that, enabling you to build up to Maron Strike against particularly strong bosses.

Maron Shield

Maron Chaser Maron Chaser (25 PP)
Maron launches a projectile that bounces from enemy to enemy.

Used to aggro multiple enemies when using Maron in a mobbing context.

Maron Chaser

Maron Curse Maron Curse (40 PP)
Maron launches a slow-moving projectile which applies a DoT for 9.5s.

Solid single-target DPS provided the enemy lives long enough for all ticks of Curse to deal damage.

Curse will stop doing damage if you switch pets, though, so this PA's use is limited, given the whole point of this pet is to use Maron Strike and move on.

Maron Curse

Maron Break Maron Break (5 PP)
Maron dashes in a circle, dealing damage.

This is your main PA to use while stalling for charge.

Maron Strike is the main event with this pet - throwing out a Break or two while the enemy smacks up Maron is fine, but if you find yourself using Break for an extended period of time, you've probably got the wrong pet for the situation.

Melon

Melon is similar to Maron, featuring the same charge mechanic, PAs, and personalities as Maron, but with a few big differences.

  • Melon builds level 2 charge in only one hit, and level 3 charge after only two hits
  • Has substantially higher DEF, but much lower HP (the lowest of all pets)
  • Will return to no charge after 15s, rather than detonating in your hand
  • Melon Strike deals lower damage, but can be throw multiple times
  • Adverse personality's damage bonus doesn't automatically apply to Melon Strike

Maron Strike Melon Strike (10 PP)
Throw Melon at your target, dealing damage. Quickly tap Melon Strike to throw repeatedly.

Same as with Maron Strike, the damage of this PA is increased based on the pet's charge level, however the AOE of the PA is not. Melon is never very useful for hitting crowds of enemies.

Melon Strike has really solid tracking, and as such, Melon's main use is against enemies where you can easily take a few hits to reach charge level 3, then use Melon Strike during sections of boss fights where bosses are too mobile for Synchro to hit.

Also note that you can be staggered out of Melon throws by being hit. Make sure to have good positioning when Alter Ego is on cooldown!
